The business began in January 1990 when Ron Bailey, along with his parents Ruth and Coy, started a small used furniture store called A-1 Discount Furniture on Tudor Road. Nine months later, they moved into the old Anchorage Roller Rink at Arctic and Benson, where they began selling new furniture in a 20,000 square foot space. In July 1993, A-1 Discount Furniture became Bailey’s Furniture, adding partner Mike Bailey and opening a new store in Wasilla. That same year, they aired their first television commercial featuring seven-year-old Buddy Bailey.

In September 2005, the Anchorage Superstore opened, becoming the largest furniture store in Alaska. It features the largest indoor waterfall in Alaska, a play area for children, complimentary gourmet coffee, and pleasant music. By 2008, the business expanded to Fairbanks, renovating the old Tip Top Chevrolet building on Cushman Street to serve the interior communities. Bailey’s Furniture works with the Aleutian Pribilof Islands Association, the Boys & Girls Club, the First Samoan Body of Christ Church, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the Hospice of Anchorage.
