Renaissance Milwaukee West Hotel

The Renaissance Society is a lifelong learning organization in Sacramento, CA. In partnership with Sacramento State University, the society offers programs designed for people of all ages and backgrounds to learn, connect, and share knowledge. The community provides a variety of subjects through programs that can be attended in person on campus, off campus, or via hybrid and Zoom formats. Members can also access recordings of many programs at a later time. Beyond educational offerings, the organization emphasizes community engagement through events and shared interests, while supporting Sacramento State through volunteer work, food pantry donations, and scholarships.

The history of the society traces back to the mid-1980s, following a proposal by Professor Robert Heilman. After observing similar retirement learning centers at other universities, the program was developed with the assistance of Dr. Margaret McKoane and received initial seed money from President Donald Gerth and Dean Robert Arellanes. The society officially began its first semester in the fall of 1986. The organization is governed by a Board of Directors, which includes elected officers, a past president, members-at-large, and various committee chairs.
