Porter-Gaud School traces its history back to October 1867, when the Reverend Dr. Anthony Toomer Porter founded the Holy Communion Church Institute to educate children orphaned or experiencing poverty in Charleston. The institution evolved into the Porter Military Academy and later merged with the Gaud School and the Watt School in 1964 to form the current Porter-Gaud School. The school has maintained a strong Episcopal identity and a commitment to a well-rounded educational curriculum that includes academics, the arts, athletics, spiritual growth, and community service.
