Beechwood Farms began when Eva "Elizabeth" Guest and Billy Ledford graduated from Slater-Marietta High School in 1961 and married that November. Billy worked at Slater Mill and Elizabeth at Stone Manufacturing Plant while she trained as a nurse, and he started farming in the spring of 1963, growing 50 acres of field corn on rented land near the North Saluda River. Within two years the operation grew to 300 acres. In 1967 the Ledfords bought 136 acres of rental land including a house, and Billy added pole beans within three years; his sister, Judy Best, joined the operation. In 1973 they bought another 123 acres in Marietta, the beginning of today's farm location. A U-Pick operation of pole beans, tomatoes, and half-runners started in 1979, and in the 1980s a roadside market and a greenhouse were built.

The market sits on Bates Bridge Road, about a tenth of a mile from the North Saluda River and a third of a mile from Talley Creek. Slater Hall and the Slater Hall Community Center are roughly a third of a mile away, the Slater Post Office about four tenths of a mile, and Slater White Park about four tenths of a mile.
