Robert Labadie, MD, PhD

Robert Labadie, MD, PhD is an otolaryngologist in Charleston, SC, specializing in the treatment of ear diseases and cochlear implants. As a medical doctor with a Ph.D. in bioengineering, he designs and performs studies to improve outcomes for patients with hearing loss. Dr. Labadie is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, who studied mechanical engineering at the University of Notre Dame before completing both his M.D. and Ph.D. at the University of Pittsburgh. He completed his residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Following that training, he joined the faculty at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he practiced for 20 years. He was recruited to MUSC in January 2022 to become the chair of otolaryngology. His academic work includes authoring more than 175 peer-reviewed papers, securing more than a dozen patents, writing multiple book chapters, and publishing a textbook on image-guided surgery. He has presented his research nationally and internationally.

The Charleston office is located at 135 Rutledge Avenue in the Rutledge Tower. It sits about a quarter mile from Cannon Park and the Rivers Library, with Ashley Hall nearby. The practice also maintains a location in Mount Pleasant at 1600 Midtown Avenue.
