Coastal Research and Education Center

Coastal Research and Education Center is a research institute in Charleston, SC. The center conducts applied research, education, and public service programs focusing on vegetable and specialty crops. Its work includes developing sustainable, efficient, and economical vegetable production as well as conventional and organic pest management. The center provides instruction and research experience to graduate students and offers opportunities for scientific collaboration.

The facility includes 325 acres in addition to laboratories located in the Department of Agriculture U.S. Vegetable Laboratory building. In cooperation with the Clemson University Extension Service, the center emphasizes local problem solving and grower educational programs. Research efforts focus on increasing production and handling technology for the vegetable industry through the use of innovative production, postharvest methodology, and effective pest management systems, including biological control and pest-resistant plants.

The center is located on Savannah Hwy, near the U.S. Vegetable Laboratory and a short distance from Long Branch and the Saint Andrews Fire District Station 2. It is also situated near Charleston Junior Academy.
