By 1906, Taylor moved from Newport to reside on the farm, and through 1909, he and his son Moses expanded the land to over 700 acres. The family bred Guernsey cows, which won prizes at competitive contests. In the 1920s, Taylor commissioned architect John Russel Pope, famous for designing the Jefferson Memorial, to design a proper family home on a secluded part of the farm.
