The organization’s history dates back to the early 1900s, with roots in two institutions established to provide healthcare to the people of Gallup and nearby Navajo and Zuni communities. Rehoboth Mission Hospital was founded in 1910 by Protestant missionaries from the Christian Reformed Church to serve Native Americans. In 1916, the Poor Sisters of St. Francis took over a small infirmary that had been operating since 1895 to serve railroad workers. These institutions eventually merged in 1983 to form RMCHCS, consolidating resources to meet the region’s growing needs. Today, the system serves rural McKinley County and is accredited by the Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality (CIHQ). The clinic also offers wellness programs such as SilverSneakers Stability, a class designed for fall prevention that strengthens ankle, knee, and hip joints, held every Wednesday at noon at the RMCHCS Wellness Center.
The clinic is located at 1900 Redrock Dr, 1st Floor, in Gallup. It sits on Redrock Drive, about a tenth of a mile from Nizhoni Boulevard and College Drive. The Gallup Indian Medical Center is located about a fifth of a mile away, and the University of New Mexico Gallup Branch is about a third of a mile from the clinic.
