Round Lake Vineyards & Winery of Austin is a winery in Austin, Minnesota. The vineyard grows over 19,000 vines across four vineyards in seven blocks, with planting beginning in the spring of 2007. The winery produces a range of wines and offers offsite catering for events of all sizes, from intimate gatherings of 30 guests to grand celebrations of up to 300. Catering services cover corporate meetings, retreats, parties, birthday and graduation parties, holiday parties, rehearsal dinners, wedding receptions, bridal showers, family reunions, class reunions, and more. The winery also hosts relaxed, elegant weddings at Round Lake.
The first block planted featured three varieties: La Crescent, Frontenac Gris, and Marquette, which remain some of the most treasured vines producing award-winning wines. The rich black soils, streaked with sand and gravel, provide drainage while giving the wines great mineral character. The property's well water reflects a strong odor of iron and minerals, which translates to the wines grown there. The second block, planted in 2008, gave the winery St. Pepin and Brianna, two of the most distinct wines produced. Today, the vineyard has added Petite Pearl, Sabrevois, King of the North, Petite Amie, Frontenac Blanc, Louise Swenson, and more Marquette. The Marquette grape grows in three different blocks, each giving unique characteristics, from lighter and fruity to richer and more complex. The last grape planted was Itasca, developed by Peter Hemstedt at the University of Minnesota, which grows with strong canes and beautiful bunches on a south-facing slope that was once a pasture for buffalo and horses.
