Alto Vineyards is a winery in Urbana, Illinois, serving wine enthusiasts and visitors across Central Illinois with a focus on premium, handcrafted wines and immersive experiences. Located at 4210 N Duncan Rd, the winery offers a diverse selection of 22 wines, ranging from sweet to dry, and features two tasting rooms in Alto Pass and Champaign. Founded in 1988 by Guy Renzaglia, Alto Vineyards played a pivotal role in reviving the grape-growing and winemaking industry in Southern Illinois after Prohibition. Guy, along with partners Skip Cosgrove and Ted Wickman, planted the first commercial vineyard in the region, laying the foundation for what would become a third-generation family business. Guy’s son Paul became the first winemaker and helped establish the winery’s reputation for excellence, earning multiple awards including recognition as Wine Maker of the Year. The business has grown steadily, expanding to include a second tasting room in Champaign and hosting events such as the annual Harvest Fest. The Renzaglia family continues to lead the winery, with Dan Renzaglia as President, Karen Renzaglia as Vice President of Operations, and Paul Renzaglia overseeing production and vineyard management.
