Round Lake Vineyards & Winery is a winery in Round Lake Beach, IL. The family‑owned estate grows more than 19,000 vines across four vineyards and produces a portfolio of wines that includes La Crescent, Frontenac Gris, Marquette, St. Pepin, Brianna, Petite Pearl, Sabrevois, King of the North, Petite Amie, Frontenac Blanc, Louise Swenson and Itasca. Planting began in the spring of 2007, and the original block of three varieties, La Crescent, Frontenac Gris and Marquette, remains a cornerstone of the vineyard’s most celebrated wines. The property’s black soils, interlaced with sand and gravel, deliver excellent drainage and impart a distinct mineral character to the fruit. Well water rich in iron further contributes to the unique flavor profile of the wines. Subsequent blocks introduced St. Pepin, Brianna and a range of newer cultivars, each thriving on the south‑facing slope that was once pasture for buffalo and horses. The vineyard’s sandy loam and nutrient‑dense topsoil create ideal conditions for the Itasca grape, a variety developed at the University of Minnesota that produces unusually strong canes and beautiful bunches. The diversity of blocks allows the same grape, such as Marquette, to express different styles, from lighter, fruity notes to richer, more complex expressions.
