Morton Orchestra Program

Morton Orchestra Program is a music school in Morton, IL, serving students in grades 6 through 12 through its string orchestra program within Community Unit School District 709. Founded in 1977 by band directors at Morton High School, the program has grown steadily in size and quality, now providing instruction to over 150 students. Led by directors Pete Martin and David Getz, the ensemble focuses on delivering an enriching and entertaining education in string instruments, emphasizing both performance and music literacy. The program is part of a district recognized annually since 2017 as a “Best Community for Music Education” by the NAMM Foundation, a distinction unique to Morton among downstate Illinois school districts.
