In 1970, Gainesville First Methodist Church offered a second-floor suite of two rooms to start the center, and in 1971 the doors officially opened with a newly graduated speech pathologist from the University of Georgia and a small staff of Junior League volunteers. An advisory board was formed, and a professor from UGA's speech and hearing department served as an advisor. Within four years, the center moved into a larger facility. Today, as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, its clinicians focus on early intervention, play-based learning, and empowering families with strategies for growth, working with a variety of insurances to keep quality therapy within reach. Supporters and families share stories of confidence gained, milestones reached, and communication unlocked through community support and quality speech services.
