Sweet Hut opened on Buford Highway in 2012 as the Ewe family's answer to a craving for the Cantonese bakeries they grew up with, where pork buns and egg tarts came out warm at any hour. Atlanta already had small, tucked-away Asian bakeries; Sweet Hut set out to build one that anyone could wander into, bright and generous with seating, a place to stay a while. Eight houses later across Atlanta and Dallas, the recipe has not changed: baked fresh, six times a day, with a hundred pastries pulled from the oven and each house baking a wider selection fresh daily.
The bakery sits on Peachtree Street Northeast in Midtown, about a tenth of a mile from the Margaret Mitchell House, which is both a memorial and a museum. Two public artworks, The Sole Sitter and Avenues of Engagement, stand within a short walk of the door.
Sweet Hut holds a rating of 4.50 from the customers who have reviewed it.
For Midtown Atlanta, Sweet Hut brings the warm-at-any-hour Cantonese bakery tradition into a bright, seating-friendly space where the egg tarts and boba keep coming out fresh six times a day.
