The center’s history begins with a promise made to the grandmother of Carolyn Adams, Ms. Estella Byrd Whitman. Founders Arthur and Carolyn Adams, along with co-founder Dr. Pamela Lewin, established the medical home in West Ocala. After Mr. Adams passed away in 2013, the remaining founders continued their work, supported by local benefactors and city officials. The Estella Byrd Whitman Wellness and Community Resource Center opened its doors in 2018. The mission is to deliver accessible, quality healthcare to individuals and families, especially those facing barriers to care, through compassion and respect. The vision is to be a sustainable and responsive provider that expands services to meet the evolving needs of the community. The board of directors includes Cynthia Wilson-Graham, PhD as Chair, Jacob Baker as Vice-Chair, Robin Clark as Secretary, Cherrietta Prince, and Rev. Eric Cummi.
