ASTRO Foundation Inc. is a nonprofit foundation in Oakdale, CA, dedicated to rescuing and rehoming cats and dogs across Oakdale, Riverbank, and Escalon. Since its founding in 2012 by a group of passionate animal advocates, the organization has expanded from a foster-based rescue to a full-service adoption and community outreach organization. It operates an adoption center at 20 S. Stearns Road and a thrift shop in Oakdale, offering a range of services including adoptions, foster care, and a Community Cat Program focused on TNVR (Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return) to reduce feline overpopulation humanely. The foundation has rescued over 12,000 animals since 2012, with more than 1,165 cats and dogs rescued in 2025 alone. In 2021, ASTRO opened its first adoption center in downtown Oakdale, and following a successful capital campaign, relocated to its current facility at 20 S. Stearns Road in April 2025. The organization now manages a network of foster homes and operates a dedicated adoption center and thrift shop, both serving as vital hubs for animal care and community engagement. Its programs are guided by a mission to address the root causes of animal homelessness while preparing animals for permanent, loving homes.
