Founded by Freddy, a 5th degree black belt with over 30 years of experience in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, the academy traces its roots to Companhia Paulista Jiu-Jitsu in São Paulo, Brazil, where Freddy trained under Master Maximiano Trombini, a founding figure in the organization. Freddy began training at age 15 after discovering the sport in 1991, transitioning from a background in judo that began at age seven. He competed in over 100 tournaments, earning medals in more than 75, and remained undefeated in six of his seven black belt superfights. He began teaching in 1998 while still a purple belt and led classes at the original Cia Paulista academy in Brazil before moving to Los Angeles in 2004. In 2010, he opened the Monrovia location, becoming the first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy in the city.
