Children’s of Alabama ,  Rheumatology is a medical clinic in Birmingham, AL. The division provides pediatric rheumatology services that diagnose and treat children with autoimmune disorders such as juvenile arthritis, lupus, myositis, scleroderma and various vasculitides. Treatment options include intra‑articular corticosteroid joint injections and newer biologic agents that target inflammatory cytokines, and the team conducts clinical research aimed at optimizing juvenile arthritis therapy. Established in 2007 to address a statewide shortage of pediatric rheumatologists, the clinic now serves patients from every county in Alabama and many neighboring states. The clinic operates as a partnership between the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Children’s of Alabama and the local chapter of the Arthritis Foundation, which helped create new clinic space and an endowed chair in pediatric rheumatology.
